Kids love it, but it is louder than a real lawnmower! - Sep 01, 2010
My daughter and all of her friends really love to play with this toy. The only problem is that is incredibly loud! We have hardwood floors that don't help the situation, but be warned that it is super loud!
UNBELIEVABLY HORRIBLE RACKET! - Sep 01, 2010
Clearly the people that designed this horrendous contraption HATE parents! This is hands down the loudest toy our son has ever received. We took the balls out, which helped SOME, but it's still SO loud! Even for ten dollars, had I known how horrible it was, I never would have purchased it. After about a month, my husband and I couldn't stand it, so we made the thing "disappear."
This is definitely one of the worst toddler toys I've ever seen.
Most Played with toy in the House - Aug 31, 2010
My son recieved three of these as christmas gifts when he was one, he is now three and still pushes it around like a mad man. The mower and other musical sounds are okay but usually get drowned out because the spinning balls are so loud, ours is especially loud because a gear is loose, so the balls And the gears grind. All the reviews are not joking. It is LOUD, like go outside to talk on the phone loud, turn the subtitles on the t.v. on loud. As a good parent I can't complain, he loves it, more so i think because it is so loud. We never had a problem with the handle, it doesn't stay up but doesn't detract from the enjoyment.
NEED EARPLUGS FOR THIS TOY!!!! - Jul 05, 2010
Our daughter just got this for her birthday, and I'll be getting rid of it before she starts to like it because it is so unbelievably loud!!!
SOOOOO LOUD!!! - May 19, 2010
Agree with others. This thing is stinking loud! Like if toddler is pushing this through the house you will not be able to hear the TV or hear anyone else talk. I used to think my kids ball popper was loud.
Handle Problem Fixed - May 16, 2010
If you put paper behind the green post for the handle it will stay up. My daughter jut started walking so I needed the handle to stay up! I love the songs but the toy is very poorly designed for little ones. Hope this helps.
Fun but Kind of Loud - Mar 27, 2010
This is a cute toy. It has great sounds and music that isn't as annoying as some toys. It also has balls that tumble around when it is pushed. One problem is that you can't hear the music or sounds over the sound of the balls when it is pushed. My children do like it though and sit and play the sounds and music without pushing it so they can hear them better.
Buy for someone you don't like - Jan 04, 2010
Good idea, but bad product. Even with my 13 month old pushing this around the balls slam against the bubble making the loudest racket in the house. This needs to be geared down or something so it doesn't spin as fast. If you have someone you'd like to have hate you for life then buy this mower for their kids. I cannot stress how loud and annoying this toy is.
Choose something else - Dec 17, 2009
We were so excited to have this because my (at the time) 2-year-old really wanted a mower to "be like Daddy." Now, I understand that lawn mowers are noisy, but this thing is REALLY loud when being pushed by a toddler. Maybe it's just the sound of it on our tile floor INSIDE the house, although it's now been banned inside and is only used outside. The handle does not stay up and is VERY short. I would not have chosen this specific mower, but it was a gift and will be around until it "disappears" someday :)
This toy should state that the handle doesn't stay up - Dec 15, 2009
I bought this for my grandson's first birthday as he is learning to walk and I thought this toy would help him. How wrong I was the handle didn't stay up consequently when he tried to push it the handle went down and he fell forward. Do not buy this toy unless your child is steady on his feet.
Loud but my son loves it! - Dec 03, 2009
This is probably my 2 year old son's favorite toy. Ever since he started watching me mow the lawn he always gets it out when its that time of the week and daddy is mowing. The only issue I have with the toy is that it is VERY loud for indoor use. Recently we moved it out to the garage and stored it by daddy's mower--my son thinks its way cool and now its quieter for us as well as he keeps it outside.
As everyone else has said... - Oct 16, 2009
My boy got this for his first birthday and LOVES IT!
We do have to hide it from him when we want to hear something else since the popping balls are quite loud. I debated making it an outside only toy, but haven't done that YET....
The songs are fine, though nothing spectacular. I do like the little noises it makes when in the imagination mode. The handle has not been a problem for us, but my son is already running, so he isn't trying to use the handle to steady himself at all.
Overall, like most toys the kids love, it will drive the adults nuts.... but well worth the money.
find a different push toy - Oct 01, 2009
I am exteremly disappointed with this toy. I'm not sure what Fisher-Price was thinking when they created a push toy for toddlers where the handle does not stay up on its own. It is also obnoxiously loud. My advice is to find a different toy for your little one.
Be careful - Sep 20, 2009
Be careful with this product. It's got one horrid flaw: the handle. Other reviewers have mentioned this, and it's a serious dealbreaker for me. The packaging and website never mention that the handle does not stay upright. This is such a major problem because my son will push the mower along, then faceplant due to the swiveling handle. He's practically walking on his own, and has tons of fun with other toys that you can lean on and walk with. Avoid this unless your child is walking, I suppose.
My son loves the "poppity" balls, and other features on this toy. There's quite a bit to play with. So, it's fairly well-designed and interesting. I just can't get over the moronically designed handle. Actual mowers aren't designed this way, so what made Fisher-Price think this was a good idea? The "music" and "learning" modes are nothing special. There's nothing unique about the melodies or words, really. I feel that there's no real creative juice flowing in the baby/toddler toy market, and that's sad. The actual mower features seem interesting and different, but that's ruined my generic songs written and recorded over someone's lunch break, as well as the poorly designed handle.
wish the handle would stay up - Jun 08, 2009
this mower makes a bunch of different noises and is very fun for my daughter. I just wish that the handle would stay up.
Okay, but not for kids just beginning to walk - May 28, 2009
Easy to assemble and makes neat sounds that my 1-year old son really seemed to find interesting. The handle, as many have pointed out, does not stand up. The mower rolls freely without friction, so kids who are still learning how to walk will fall if they try to use the mower to steady themselves. That's why I gave it three stars. We just got it, though, so that might be revised. If you're looking for a walking toy to give little ones confidence while they find their feet, this is probably not what you want.
Great Gift - Jan 09, 2009
I purchased this toy for my 14 month great nephew as a Christmas gift. I read a few of the reviews, and I will agree the toy is loud. My newphew loves it! My niece said that he's still going strong two weeks after xmas. I gave it a 3 stars for it's educational value, since you can barely hear the "abc" song.
Grandson loves the learning mower! - Jan 07, 2009
My grandson loves his Fisher-Price learning mower! He 'mows' all around the living room with it. He had seen one at a birthday party he attended and couldn't keep his hands off it. My daughter loves the fact that the handle is collapsible, so it can be stored easily under something.
My Son loves this toy - Dec 28, 2008
My 18 month old loves this toy, can play with it for a long period of time. Cons: The handle isn't stationary so it took him about 30 minutes to figure out that he can't go too fast or the handle falls. The other con it is loud so I put it away after a while but he really loves this toy. Outside playing would be perfect but we let him play in the house.
Cute but daughter doesn't play with it - Nov 26, 2008
The lawn mower is taller than the vacuum cleaner (by Fisher Price) which makes it easier for my 2 year old to maneuver around the house. The bouncing balls around the "propeller" is cute. The little dials make sounds when turned as if there is gas getting poured in or pulling the "cord" to start it. She does play with this more than the vacuum (which she doesn't play with at all) but she doesn't play with it all that much. It seems to be made well also. I think its adorable but she's too busy trying to keep up with her older siblings to worry about pretending she's cutting the grass.
Balls get jammed in the top and it jerks to a stop - Nov 17, 2008
We would love this little mower even though it is extremely loud but the problem is, the balls get jammed by the little spinner on the top and will come to a jerking halt while my little boy is cruising around with it and it is NOT easy to unjam. I finally just put it away because he would get so upset. :( Too bad!
My Son LOVES this toy - Oct 18, 2008
My son loves loves this toy. It is absolute favorite. He got it when he was about 13 months, and now he is 22 months and he still loves it. The only problem with it is that it is super loud. At first we would hide it, so that he would only play with it when he found it. But then we finally just decided to make it an outside toy. He loves it so much, but the noise level was just way to much.
Great Toy for the Price - Oct 06, 2008
Hi there,
I am the parent of a 16 month daughter. She absolutely loves this. She loves watching her daddy mow the lawn and now she feels big having her own. I like that it has three settings. One is for learning, another for music and one for just normal mower sounds. I put it on the latter and explain how a mower works. I also use this for teaching push and pull, which is why I gave it an educational rating. You can also teach higher and lower and faster and slower because the songs use these words. I show my daughter what they mean by faster and slower and use the real grass before and after daddy mowes to explain that the grass gets shorter, as well as other real life examples. The songs are cute and addicting as usual for Fisher-Price toys. One is "Mow, Mow, Mow your lawn on a Sunny day, Push and Pull, etc. Learning as you play.
Anyway, my daughter just loves pushing it around the house.
I didn't give it four stars for the same reason as other reviewers: Its hard to hear songs when it is being pushed and the bar doesn't stay up. My husband fixed this by inserting a cotton swab into the handle part, but even these needs replaced from time to time.
Great toy - Sep 03, 2008
My son received this lawn mower for his 1st birthday. He actually didn't get around to playing with it much until after he started walking. Once he turned 15 months, he has played with this toy day in and day out. The songs that play on it are cute, and my son has learned to play and push every button on the mower and knows what it does. The only complaint I have about this toy is that sometimes the little balls that the blades push around when you are pushing the mower, get jammed up. Other than that, this is a great toy and my son loves it and is still playing with it every day at 17 months right now.
Best with no batteries! - Jul 26, 2008
The spinning "blades" and colorful balls are nicely made -- they move around quickly and make noise when the mower is pushed -- just like what you'd want in this type of toy. However, the songs and other recorded noises are obnoxious, and you can't even hear them over the mower sounds anyway. (Why is it that every single toy now has to scream out shapes, colors, numbers, and letters? Are toddlers really not able to learn these concepts from their parents without these obnoxious toys?) The only reason we bought this is because there are no other mower-type push toys available in our corner of asia. We've solved the toys' negatives by just keeping the batteries out! Without the batteries, its a great toy.
