Annoying, yet strangely lovable - Mar 29, 2010
My daughter really wanted one of these for her birthday so we got one. I will admit, us adults were not all that impressed with it. It was cute for about 2 minutes and then I kinda wanted to find a robot cat to take care of the annoying little thing. It makes little noises and when it runs into something, the nose hits and it makes more noises and goes other places. Fortunately, my 7 year old daughter is way more impressed with it. She and her friends think it's "so cute". I will say it does get more interesting if you have the house pieces and other things for it to interact with. Overall, a novelty, but the kids really like it.
Received broken, one of the wheels was deformed, motor didn't work either. My child still loved it so decided to keep it anyway. - Mar 20, 2010
Received the Zhu Zhu pet broken, one of the wheels was deformed, motor wouldn't work, decided to keep it because child wanted it still. Don't blame anyone but the manufacturer..
MY NEPHEW LOVED IT - Feb 24, 2010
This item was delivered quickly with AMAZONS' super saver shipping and the rest really doesn't matter, because my Nephew loved receiving his white electronic hamster. My opinion on how much it was really worth or the length of time he didn't play with the toy is meaningless in comparison to the smile the gift produced the eagerly expecting four year old! He had his battery operated hamster named chunk for Christmas & he played with it well in to the night. The toy came with the batteries, which was a big plus. For those that want to concentrate on the price gouging aspect; Yes, the product is imported and overpriced but isn't this the American way? Get over it!
Just okay.... - Feb 22, 2010
My kids wanted these for Christmas, so we caved and bought three. Personally, I think it's a waste of money--my kids played with them a couple of times and now...they're sitting in the end of toy box. Toys are kind of boring, you push the back, it makes noises, moves around....better for younger kids. It's amusing to my toddler, but for older kids 7+--don't waste your money.
Great for CATS! - Feb 22, 2010
I bought this one little Zhu Zhu pet for my cats. We have no children, so I can only review this based on our cats' perspectives! They were quite surprised, and it definitely held their interest. Unfortunately, after a few minutes they'd knock it over, and we'd have to put it right again. It's not that big of a deal though because this toy shouldn't be left alone with cats. They're short-haired cats, but we made sure they avoided the wheels anyway. So, if you buy one of these for cats (or dogs!) monitor the play time. Other than that, it's a very cute little toy, and the name "Chunk" is adorable.
chunk - reviewed by kid - Feb 08, 2010
I'm eight and got this for Christmas, this is my review. Chunk is my zhu zzhu's name.I think he's the cutest one but seems to go slower than the other zhu zhus even when batterys are new. My dad had to tighten the wheels once. But a quick fix. Love him I think he's cute but is way more slower. But he's good in he ball and in the world. It lasts a long time befor you have to replace batteries, better than some toys. And makes speacil noise when sleeping!
Bought for a present, it was a hit : ) - Feb 07, 2010
We got this for the daughter of a close friend. The little girl called us several times to thank us for it. She was very happy to finally have a Zhu Zhu pet and plays with it all the time (her mom tells us). We think it was a great price and much cheaper than ebay had them for. The toy shipped fast and arrived within days and we choose the regular shipping method. I would recommend this toy.
Meh - Feb 06, 2010
I "needed" this toy before Christmas and spent too much. In the end I was surprised how much my daughter didn't really care about it, even after being overly-bombarded with commercials for months and begging to own it for just as long.
Zhu Zhu fad... - Feb 01, 2010
Not very interactive, not educational. My daughter is six, and tired of it very quickly. It sits on her dresser now. $20 is way too much to pay......
Chunk the hamster - Jan 30, 2010
This purchase was initially to be a cat toy==which is a very good, amusing cat toy but is is so rodent-like that it is fun to start up and let it skittle around. Just got the racetrack and the wheel--Chunk is a 'wheel hog'.
RIP OFF!!!!! - Jan 26, 2010
I bought these for my 3 children for Christmas ( I found them by luck and only paid $8 each) It is now one month after and two out of the three don't work at all. We have changed batteries and everything. I think the only reason the 3rd one still works is my daughter does not play with it at all. Thank goodness I did not spend big bucks. Save your money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Super fast delivery, Zhu zhu was well received and loved - Jan 25, 2010
Item was received extremely quickly, within a few days and was received in time for Christmas.
It was perfect, packed in original packing, in perfect condition, and works perfectly.
Price was fair, considering the pricing for the zhu zhu pets was insane before the holidays and finding one almost as bad
All in all, good purchase, was well received and Chunk the hamster is quite entertaining to young and old.
Zhu Zhu - Jan 21, 2010
My granddaughter loved getting this toy for Christmas. She is having so much fun with it.
Save your money - Jan 11, 2010
We bought one of these for our 4 year old because her older sisters were getting real hamsters for Christmas. It is now January 11th and the thing doesn't run anymore. Changed batteries and had to dig hair and everything else that got caught up in the wheels from the floor and it still won't run. It talks, too much. Save your money on this fad toy. It isn't worth it.
ZhuZuzhs are zuper - Jan 10, 2010
If you have a pet, he must have a place to sleep!!! All of the accessories are fun and teach children about having a real pet. Except, you do not have the mess or the worry.
A delightful toy - Jan 08, 2010
I gave Zhu Zhu pets to my grandsons for Christmas. They were little but big on entertainment. They go everywhere, and when one's attention is diverted for a moment, a search is sometimes necessary. Once it crawled up a diaper bag and disappeared into a baby's supplies! The only drawback is that I feel they were overpriced due to Christmas demand. I found better prices after the demand receded.
Really cute... until they don't work. - Jan 05, 2010
We managed to get our hands on five or six of these little guys, and most of their accessories, at our local Toys R Us the week before Christmas with no problems. I feel bad only giving these guys one star because we all really liked the pets and have had a lot of fun playing with them, but my problem with them is that they stop working... like, right away. Two of them started moving slow so we replaced the batteries only to find that they now don't run at all. Sometimes they make noise, but that's it. We still have a few that are working, one of them very slowly, but I have a feeling they're all going to die when it comes time to change the batteries. Absolutely unacceptable. It would be nice to see a recall at some point because I know we're not the only ones that have had this problem. BTW... Aside from the car and the boat, the accessories are total garbage. I wouldn't waste any time or money on them because they are cheaply made and don't stay together or even hold their shape (I'm looking at our lopsided slide as I type this). We have plenty of fun with them on the floor, but the boat and car are pretty cute.
Hoarding, Price Gouging, and False Shortage Fueled by Greed - Jan 01, 2010
I hope every one of these greedy people who bought up the furry little critters, hoarded them and jacked up the price has to now eat them in lieu of groceries. Of course, what does it say about us as a society when parents will wait all night in line and then fight and injure other parents to buy these toys just because the kids think they want them. Something is very wrong with us.
No. Just no. - Jan 01, 2010
It's about the size of your hand and unbelievably adorable. Until it makes noise. The thing just rolls around the room making noises (squeaking and farting and other sounds). The wheels are incredibly painful when you even get your finger caught on them, not to mention your hair. Don't buy it. Really.
Finally, a cute animatronic critter...but get some accessories... - Dec 30, 2009
I have been seeing the trends as various animatronic pets have come along over the years (from the basic barking/walking dog, to Pleo.) My one complaint is that they never disguise it very well that it's a little animal robot--in other words, most aren't that cute.
But these Zhu Zhu Hamsters are adorable, I chose the white one, Chunk, and it's the only I have so far, so I don't know if their personalities really are that different.
I will say that if you get this, you might want to buy another one and/or some accessories for it. The interactions the hamster will have in the various playhouses, tunnels, wheels, slides, cars, etc. is what really makes this more entertaining. (And I say that from both my adult perspective, and making a reasonable guess about how much a youth would enjoy it.)
***A final note: I can't seem to edit the star rating on the educational value. I'm not sure why I initially gave it 3 stars, as I don't really consider it all that educational.***
One delighted 7 year old here. - Dec 30, 2009
I had very low expectations for these due to consumer whiplash out there and was gladly pleasanly surprised. I think they are made much sturdier than I was expecting, they were a bit smaller than I origionally expected but are really very cute. We got a chuckle out of hearing them randomly moo or cockadoodle doo. My 7 year old and 2 year old spent a lot of time chrismas morning just chsing them around as they explored the floors. I think it is rather cute how they scurry about, turing around and such.
Santa found these for a very reasonable price and would never stoop to support 3rd party markups. The only people to blame for such mark-ups are the consumers out there clamouring to pay higher prices. Not Amazon and not the toy makers, because they are not getting paid more for those marked up prices the middle man is making the $.
Too much hype - Dec 30, 2009
I think this is a very over hyped toy. Child lost interest within about 2 minutes. Others in the family compared it to watch the robot vacuum though actually less interesting because it did not pick up dirt. Our child is more interested in toys that she can actually play with, this she can move around, put together, etc.
BE GLAD IF YOU COULDNT GET ONE - Dec 27, 2009
My mom works at Walmart so she was able to get my sister a Zhu Zhu pet when a new shipment came in the night before Christmas Eve. The thing was fun until it BROKE.
Seriously what can you expect for a $8 toy but now it's been two days since Christmas and the thing won't move anymore. There was one tiny string on the wheel and I took the whole thing apart, cleaned the wheels, changed the batteries and nothing! This was a waste. My sister didn't even know what it was.
For those who couldn't find them, be glad it doesn't last and isn't worth it. I really hate it for the people who went all out and bought all the accessories and stuff. Luckily we didn't.
These toys were clearly cheaply made and I really feel bad for the suckers who paid 3 and 4 times the retail price just so their kids could be happy.
Very dissapointing.
RIP OFF!!! - Dec 26, 2009
I purchased this Zhu Zhu pet and paid over $[...] dollars for it! I thought I was shopping on Amazon who is a retailer like Toys R Us, I didn't know that I was actually purchasing this item on a "marked" up basis like ebay. These toys sell for $[...] in Toys R Us and they had plenty of them. Amazon should alert the buyer that they are buying through a third party and not Amazon. I will never shop their site again for ANYTHING.
